About Me

I grew up in Sweden next to the golf course, which was the natural place to meet friends. At age 11 I started playing golf surrounded by a culture of constantly triggering each other to aim higher and outperform.

My closest circle of friends growing up would later turn out to be the first Swede to play the US Masters in -89, multiple European Tour- and Lades European Tour-winners as well as PGA- and LPGA players. As a result, the small Swedish golf club ended up simultaneously having a player on every tour worldwide, a phenomenal achievement for a small club that didn’t even have facilities to practice during the winter.

At the age of 21(1986), I started playing professionally. For four years I played on the European Challenge Tour, Asian Tour, South American Tour and the Swedish Golf Tour.

In 1990 I started my career as an instructor and for the past 30 years I have had the opportunity to coach both the Swedish, Norwegian and Belgian national teams and players in numerous European and World championships.

I currently reside in San Diego, CA where you can find me teaching at Encinitas Ranch GC. Being fluent in Swedish, English and French, I also lecture in biomechanics and technique all over the world in in all three languages.

“Seeing the joy of my students when they make progress is my biggest motivation. In my former role as the Head Coach for the Belgian association AFG, I also had  the privilege of seeing several prominent players develop, Nicolas Colsaerts is an example. Who does not remember his debut match against Tiger Woods in the Ryder Cup…”

Golf Coaching

My Philosophy

As the name of my website states, HLGC Henrik Lundqvist Golf Coaching believes in coaching players from where they are to where they want to go.

Who are you and what does your game need?

There is a game to be played, and all players play it differently. The key is to look at your individual game and develop it to the best efficiency possible, with the strengths and restrictions you have.

The great thing about golf is that it is an individual sport in which you measure yourself against “old man par” and your goals.

From an instruction standpoint, I don’t believe in “one method fits all”. I strongly believe that not all players are able to create the same alignments during their golf swing. I will however teach and push you to solidify the fundamentals you need. You will learn to recognize your problems, and know what to do to overcome them.

There are fundamentals to this game. Once they are in place and the “bar is raised” as you become more proficient, more skills are added on top, to fine tune.

Anyone can learn to play golf and have fun. It is truly a magnificent game and it is timeless.

Until I see you, remember: Never fall to the mercy of excuses. Instead identify your improvement areas and create the habits that will get you to your goals.

More About Henrik's Philosophy

From an instruction standpoint, you will not find any “1 method for game improvement” from me. I stand quite firm in the idea that not all players are capable of creating the same alignments during the golf swing. However, you can hold me accountable for teaching and pushing you to solidify the fundamentals you must have to accomplish your goals. You will learn to recognize your problems, do something about it, and achieve your goals.

There are fundamentals to this game. And as the “bar is raised and the player becomes more proficient, more fundamentals are laid on top of this base set of fundamentals. Approaching golf in this way will lead to a game that can be tested anywhere and anytime and provide adequate results for the goal to be accomplished.

Lastly, I believe that anyone can learn to play golf and have fun. It is truly a magnificent game and it is timeless.

Until I see you remember: Never fall to the mercy of excuses. Instead find the problems and create the habits that will have you accomplish your goals.

Evolve Your Game

Aimpoint

Here is your chance to learn Aimpoint, green reading in its simplest form, giving you the best probability to make the putt.

I am one of very few certified Level II Aimpoint instructors in San Diego and I hold classes in Aimpoint Express Level I and II every week at Encinitas Ranch GC.

Don’t miss out on this if you want to evolve your game.

“In the future, nobody will read the greens with their eyes. As time goes by all the young players coming out of college will use Aimpoint and better understand how the ball will break on the green”

– Keegan Bradley,
PGA Tour winner 2023
